The Good Samaritan is a classic, well known parable of Jesus. There are organizations named after this story and even a law called "the Good Samaritan law." Writing the song Unexpected hero for this episode of Big Picture Show the musical was truly a wonderful experience. Conversations surrounding how Jesus, in this one story, broke down walls and showed compassion. The song points to the idea of the unexpected hero in the story of the Good Samaritan, but even further, it points to Jesus, the ultimate unexpected hero. Many people had a vision of who Jesus would be, what He would look like, and how He would conquer the oppression of the day. He came for a much bigger purpose. He came to conquer sin and death once and for all. He came to offer salvation to everyone, not just certain people. He came humbly which is more powerful than full of pride. He came as a servant king, full of grace and compassion and love.
