(A spoken Word inspired by Genesis 1)
By: Angela O'Neill
In the beginning....
The words that start everything
As God the creator
turned nothing into something
In the beginning God created
Created...The first verb
Action!
Also pointing to a characteristic
Creative, an adjective
A definition.
Expression
Imagination
Artistry in motion
Six days of creation,
Beginning with illumination
In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth.
Void
Darkness
Formless
Until those first words.
The creator said
"Let there be light!"
Imagine the moment light spread.
Flickers of light widespread.
The dancing beams swirl ahead.
The contrast of dark fled.
The beauty of light instead.
He called it "Good".
No longer a blank canvas.
The symphony of creation sounded.
Orchestrated perfectly.
Each part conducted intentionally.
Melodies building.
Together each part created symphonic harmonies.
Everything working together in perfect unity.
His words continued.
Then came the expanse.
The waters
The Sea
The land that would hold our feet.
Nothing was created by chance.
Added textures began.
Like a painter, with each stroke of His hand,
The colors began to expand.
Vegetation
Trees
Seeds
Filled the land.
A masterpiece so grand.
Again came the song of the lights and their dance.
Swirling to fill the expanse.
The grandiose chorus of the light of the day.
Then the softer contrast of the nighttime ballet.
The unique rhythm of each season.
There was, detail, purpose, reason.
God the artist continued His creation.
Water, animals, fish of the sea.
Colors arranged.
Each detail created intricately.
Imagine it with me.
Now the finale.
A different tone.
As God the creator, like a potter
made flesh and bone.
While each detail plays a part,
This was different.
This was the creator's treasured work of art.
From dust of the earth,
He formed the first man.
Molding Him with detail with His hands.
Created in His image,
What a beautiful plan.
So dear, that God Breathed life into the man.
Stop
For a second
Breath in
Breath out
Breath in
Breath out
Each breath is a reminder
We were made by Him.
In His Image!
With Purpose!
On Purpose!
The canvas was completed.
In six days it was created.
The original work of art.
No other artist can fully remake it.
Because the textures...
The colors
The movement
The melodies
He made them.
Then He rested!
